Sony Ericsson, Orange and Channel 4 have joined forces to find the "hottest unsigned act in Britain". It promises to be a tech-friendly search; auditions will be by invitation, judged from entries submitted to the mobileAct website. After that, the contest promises to be a "truly digital showcase for unsigned bands, where viewers, the acts and the music industry will interact via mobile". Quite how this will be done is largely unspecified at this stage, but between the online auditions and the familiar use of mobile voting it will be interesting to see if anything new is on offer, technology-wise.
As long as your write your own tracks the genre is open, so to be in with a chance of being the top 50 invited to filmed auditions you need to submit your demo online between 10th July (that's today) and 5th August. What's in it for the winner? Well, the search will be televised on T4 and 4music, with prizes including gigs, a tour, TV exposure and, of course, the chance to drop the "unsigned" tag and apply your signature to a big, far record contract.
