The war between HD DVD and Blu-Ray has been long documented, with all the bigger players (20th century Fox/Buena Vista) making their choice and the smaller independent labels cowering in the corner. Well now it seems the tide may be turning in the Blu-Ray fight, and no it's not just the price reduction on the PS3. It's porn my friends, good old fashioned hard core penetrative porn, which is sparking a rise in Blu-Ray sales Japanese porn producers have chosen the Blu-ray format exclusively, so we can now watch high def, um, screen shots..
It's especially important that Sony manages to take this niche market, as so far HD DVD's have been cheaper, widely used and have cut price players, meaning Blu-Ray has been nursing its wounds and staring resentfully as the happy HD DVD'ers skip merrily by. Blu-Ray blue movies aren't doing so well in the USA though, as believe it or not, Disney (which work closely with Sony) have a policy against peddling adult smut.
Somehow Sony has got around this in Japan by having the discs pressed in one place and selling them in another, basically winning by default. We can understand why Disney would be wary, after all if they agreed to adult DVD's next we'd have all sorts of unsuitable combos, 'The Little Hermaid', 'A-lad-in', etc.
I can only wonder if the Blu-Ray surge in sales will continue once Disney learns of their seedy sales, and whether the fact that it's not technically them producing it will be enough to save the Sony-Disney alliance.

*Yawn*
Shiny girls, I'm disappointed that there was no reference to the VHS vs. Betamax war of the 80's and how Porn was basically the deciding factor.
Besides, many porn consumers are well, err... somewhat turned off by HD quality media due to it showing more flaws than they want. It's all about the escapism!
As above!!!
This is actually old news too, although from what I've previously heard is 1 the equipment for blu ray discs is too expensive for blue movie producers and 2 sony makes sure blu ray isn't used for such movies!
Again who wants to see some ugly girls spotted arse or shaving rash in hi definition??? No one, producers that do go into these high def blue movies only have to reduce the quality anyway!
