HP Labs wants to help you match your makeup to your skin tone... with your phone

Picture it. You have a range of cosmetic colours to choose from but you're not sure which to pick. Will that dark red make it look like I've been hit in the mouth? Is that foundation going to give me orange tide marks? What to do... well, HP suggest you pick up a special colour chart and get a friend with any camera phone, on any network, to snap a pic and send an MMS to their advisory service. They know their colour charts so they'll correct lighting and colour accordingly, and send you a response.

"HP's color matching technology provides retailers and consumer goods companies with a new, fun way to interact with customers and promote their products," said Nina Bhatti, principal scientist, Digital Imaging and Printing Lab, HP Labs. "For those who shop for cosmetics, this technology gives them a virtual beauty consultant in the palm of their hands." That's much easier than asking the girl behind the counter / your friend / your mum for their opinion, or just trusting your own judgement. Obviously.
