I admit it, I went trawling for Simpsons gadgets to see what themed offspring the upcoming Simpsons Movie had given birth to. Partially inspired by this "Great Gadgets of The Simpsons" article, which features inventions from the series, I discovered egg-yolk yellow gadgets galore, from robots to cookie jars and I just kept searching to find the most useful, funny, bizarre or ridiculous.
And then I put together a list of my favourites just for you. Yes, you. Don't say I never give you nuthin'.
1. The Simpsons Doughnut Maker
The very first thing I saw combined two of my great loves, The Simpsons and food, so I could hardly not write about it. Each bright Simpsons-yellow doughnut (donut?) maker turns out six perfect doughnuts according the included recipe, although I dare say you can experiment with your own mixture. The fact that they're not deep fried obviously makes them Extremely Good For You as well. Maybe you could buy a batch of Krispy Kremes and compare. Mmmm. *dribble*
2. Homersapien
Everyone's favourite, er, sapien can only be enhanced by taking on the form of everyone's favourite beer-guzzling, TV-addict, sofa-dwelling dad. There are full size and mini Homersapiens, so if you want to celebrate quietly and not be accused of being a geek (some people aren't ready to celebrate their geekiness; we pity them) then you can go for the more subtle 9" option.
3. The Simpsons Operation
Yes, it's technically a game and not a gadget but it has a buzzer, alright? That makes it techie enough for me. Besides... it's Operation! Who doesn't love Operation?! Calling Doctor Nick...
4. The Simpsons Duff Beer Talking Ice Bucket
There had to be one idea that has the potential to get really, really annoying, and this is it. Three of Homer's choice phrases play on rotation every time you lift the lid of the ice bucket. But it makes a change from the standard cookie jar, and I can't be only person who rather likes the Duff Beer logo.
5. Homer Simpson Shouting Dashboard Toy
Equally hypothetically annoying, this panicked Homer sits on your dashboard and shouts at you, insulting your driving and stoking your road rage nicely. I actually think these are a public service; either you get used to ignoring your boyfriend / dad / mum / best friend when they passenger-seat drive by tuning them out like so much Homer, or you use him to beat them into submission drown them out. Job done!
