They say that to really know a man (or woman), you have to see how s/he plays a game. So we must truly be very socially aware when even our gaming habits reflect environmental consciousness. Microsoft have teamed up with Games for Change, a company which provides resources and support for organisations and individuals using digital games for social change, and the result: a green game competition.
Xbox 360(TM) Games for Change Challenge, set to launch this summer in over 100 countries, will challenge college students to come up with the best game based on the theme of global warming. The announcement was made at the Games for Change Festival yesterday. Read on for the prize...
"So what’s in it for me if I win?” I hear the socially responsible generation ask. Microsoft will award cash prizes to the best entries, but it gets far more exciting than that. Winners will receive an invitation to visit Microsoft and present their entry to the Microsoft games management team for possible inclusion in Xbox LIVE Arcade! Imagine! Your game up there with the likes of Halo 3! And there’s more! The first-place prize is the opportunity to become an apprentice at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business as part of its internship program. That's a serious prize for making up a game! To anyone out there who still thinks games are just for fun, Suzanne Seggerman, co-founder and president of Games for Change, will tell you otherwise. "The current generation of gamers is among the most socially conscious in history," she said.
