I don’t get it. I just don’t. Hello Kitty products get more hits than so many other, infinitely cooler gadgets. And we have *such* cool stuff on here! What’s the attraction? What is it? Can someone please explain?

Take this Hello Kitty radio alarm, for example. It has a radio alarm function, a buzzer alarm function, auto-shutoff, a headphone jack, and a nightlight. Nothing to write home about, perfectly functional. But because it’s got that Kit all over it, I know it will be loved by one and all. Why?

Having thought long and hard on this one, I’ve come up with a few suggestions as to why this might be so.

1. We have misjudged our readership and all our readers are Japanese.
2. We have misjudged our readership and all our readers are under 12.
3. Our readers are engaged in a giant wind-up to make us think they love Hello Kitty.
4. Our readers wish they were still under 12 and hanker after things which look like toys.
Further suggestions may be sent in as comments, and until then, I will keep pondering in between posts as to what is the pull of Kit-face.

I've had this alarm clock for oh- about five years now. It's mostly because I love Asian culture and Hello Kitty was the one alarm clock at the time that would represent that. (I've heard of and seen some better one's since, but as this one works just fine I haven't replaced it) So, maybe that's it. Or, you've just got a bunch of Hello Kitty fan-girls cruising the site...

I think its just cause she's cute and fun and we all need a bit of humour in our lives. Granted this does not explain some of the crazy extents kitty fans go to- There's a book that tackles this issue called : Hello Kitty: The Remarkable Story of Sanrio and the Billion Dollar Feline Phenomenon

Its an easy read becuase its informally written but i have to say though it provides some interesting insights it doesnt really provide an ultimate answer.

I'm actually going to go with your reason #4. This might sound a little insane, but Hello Kitty makes me feel young and carefree. It's like everything is okay when Kitty is around.

The book the previous commenter mentioned is a good one, I have it and have even read it!

I'd say all of your reasons sound correct.

Lorelai has this alarm clock on Gilmore Girls. I think that most women are little girls at heart; I know I am.
