Vivitar debut "first consumer 6 megpixel underwater camera". Uh, not quite guys

Vivitar have brought us a massive chunk of rubber orangeness, in the form of their new 6 megapixel underwater camera. It's obviously designed to withstand the bumps and splashes that come with seaside activities, and in fact, you can dive with it up to 10 metres.

Whilst this is all admirable and a teensy bit exciting if you're in the process of booking a diving holiday, I can't help but bring their attention to the Olympus mju 770SW, which is 7.1 megapixels, and can also dive to a depth of 10 metres. In their defence, the Vivitar camera is only £129.99, so they certainly beat Olympus in that respect (by £100).

  • At a maximum depth of 10m its not much use on a 'diving holiday. Recreational scuba diving has an insurance max of 30m.....

Probably more useful for snorkeling. With all that rubber, you would hope it also floats.
