It's good to talk, says BT in its ads, but how much better is it it to point and click? Word of mouth is indisputably a great way to promote new concepts and ideas- all those little gems you would never have discovered on your own. The network Digg is well known for generating user content and reviews, and allowing people to rate and create links to sites of particular interest. The problem is Digg has always been, um, a little masculine, with its primary focus on news and technology information; great of course for us gadget girls here at Shiny, but less useful if we are looking for the latest trend in fashion accessories, or how to wear a maxi dress. It may not be earth shatteringly important, but we do like to know - and now some great ladies have created Sk*rt to rectify that problem.

Digg aficionados will find the site easy to navigate as it runs on exactly the same premise, you can vote for items with the love it button and watch it rise in the rankings, and search through the top ten in various categories when you are surfing the net at work. It touts itself as ' sk*rt is like that friend who always finds the best stuff. Only better', and includes social networking features where you can chat about content.

Yes, it has been done before, and it is pretty similar to Digg, but there is nothing wrong with healthy competition right? Just because this site is more female friendly does not mean it's plastered in pink hearts and animated Barbie's either, so feminists can breathe a sigh of relief at the lack of patronizing fonts. I see great things for this site.

Here's a handy how to guide of sk*rt to get you started..

Emm....is it my filthy mind or is that tag-line a bit inappropriate?

sk*rt is down... they have exceeded their quota for the day.

Uptime is sporadic while they migrate to a higher capacity server. According to their blog, the process should be completed by tomorrow. I guess they didn't anticipate such fast growth during their launch week.
