Hitman scam: Hundreds receive emails from hitmen, asking for money in exchange for life

hitmancover.gifI know we've all gotten those creepy emails that say,"Forward this to 43 of your closest friends, or you'll die tomorrow! And so will your cat!" And we just laugh, and then junk 'em. However, what would you do if you got an email from a supposed hitman, claiming he's been sent to kill you, is watching your every move, but will leave you alone for a hefty chunk of cash? This is exactly what happened to Peter McGlothin, and the FBI are said to have received about 100 complaints about the so-called "hitman scam".

The threatening email from the supposed hitman, in Peter McGlothin's case, was pretty generic, as it didn't reveal any personal information. However, some victims of this scam were sent emails including their work address, marital status and daughter's full name; complete with a incredibly creepy note of: "TELL ME NOW ARE YOU READY TO DO WHAT I SAID OR DO YOU WANT ME TO PROCEED WITH MY JOB?" The Internet Crime Complaint Center announced last week that it's received more than 1 million consumer complaints about different forms of cyber- fraud since May, 2000. If do for some odd reason receive one of these emails, please alert the police immediately, instead of living in fear, and possibly your closet, for the next month.
