Flush and go: Mobiles are getting toilet treatment

phone2.jpg

A recent study revealed that 885,000 mobiles are flushed down the toilet every year. Seriously. That's a lot of tech to loo-se (sorry). And in such an undignified manner! Apparently the most common cause of flushing is the 'skinny jean syndrome', whereby back pockets are so tight that the phone just slips out when you bend down. Other culprits include a wobbly toilet seat and general thoughtlessness.

Myself, I find that alcohol works wonders on increasing flushing potential. A quick survey of the office girls revealed that two out of four of us (50% folks) had lost or damaged the phone in tat way, with one girl having had it fall from her pocket-kudos to the survey, and the other girl, *ahem*, me, had it somehow get there during a drinking session. Plus, my sister also has a record of throwing her phone around when she is angry/pissed/hungry, and she seems to get though a rather lot of mobiles a year. Maybe it runs in the family..

I suppose we could look at this statistic as some sort of strange recycling- except of course that everyone who loses a phone this way then goes and purchases another (hopefully with insurance). All in all, it's not a dignified way to go, and I wouldn't wish it on my Samsung D600 at all. Unless of course you want to buy me that Prada phone I've been eyeballing?
