It’s curious that the online auction site eBay has chosen to incorporate social networking tools, as voting on the merits of Britney’s bikini seems a far cry from the bidding frenzy it usually promotes. Perhaps it’s not such a shock with the rise of sites such as Facebook grabbing such a large share of internet user’s online activity, and eBay want to get in on the action.
It follows the premise of ‘matching up’ items and determining which is the better one. Is Beyonce bootylicious or banal, the Olympic logo a feast or a fiasco.. you get the idea.
I’m not sure I would want to spend my time making such important choices but the site has amassed quite a following, with lively debates on the match ups posted. I find the hot or not matches amusing, as it leads one to think eBay might incorporate a dating element to its site, where you can find a perfect match with your match up. Farfetched? Let’s wait and see.
