I don’t know honestly how anyone has the energy to compete with the ubiquitous iPod but Creative is persevering, and they’re really competing on price with their latest player. The the Zen Stone is due to retail in the US for just $40, even cheaper than the UK price.
One look at the Stone is all it takes to discover where Creative got the design inspiration for its latest player. At 18.3 grams, the Stone is slightly heavier than the 2G Shuffle, but beats it in price. With a belt-clip and 1GB memory, the Stone can store about 250 songs, and the 10 hour battery life will get you through most of them, if you have the time. As a dinkily simple little player, it’s well designed and good value for money too. Won’t fit into as many cases and covers as a Shuffle, though.
