Video: Manchester Chief Constable Michael Todd invites his fellow officers to taser him...

michael_todd_taser_test.jpg...and then wonders why (quelle suprise). In a bid to prove that the barb-shooting 50,000 volt guns are necessary for police on the front line dealing with armed criminals, Todd volunteered to have the taser treatment. Painful temporary paralysis is the result, and some US groups are claiming that the guns are unsafe and deaths have occurred (though surely fewer than with full-on firearms?!).

The video footage from 2005 has already found its way to YouTube, resurfacing in the face of John Reid's controversial plan to supply tasers throughout the police force. You can find it after the jump but I warn you that it has had the YouTube user treatment and been turned into a comedy routine. Personally, I am not amused, but, erm, knock yourselves out.

The BBC has taken its video off YouTube which means more people will view this version. I used to think Manchester Police and corruption, now I think Manchester Police, how to shoot a policeman and corruption.
