Zara writes... For those uneducated in the delights that are Blu-Ray discs, I will give you the lowdown; essentially it's superior audio and image quality, the likes of which have never been seen before. We're talking crystal clear images on HDTV's, with a picture that is six times better than DVD quality.

Most cinemas don't even utilize this technology, so the home entertainment market is being revolutionized, as your home cinema experience will now be better quality than actually going outside! Blu-ray discs will play on regular DVD players, but to get the benefits of the enhanced sound and vision, you need a compatible player- of which the PS3 is leading the way, combining gaming and movies in one. Blu-ray discs also contain a host of extra features, such as film commentaries, pop up trivia, and interactive games. Blu-ray's UK representative commented that, 'In the future you can log onto the Internet with your disc and updates will be automatically downloaded- it's the experience that keeps on giving'. Blu-ray discs also come with an extra layer of protective coating to make them more scratch resistant than their rivals- the HD DVD's, and hold 50GB to their 30GB. The race is on for the final format- and there can only be one winner. But with the sales of high definition televisions only rising these formats are not something we can ignore any longer. The PS3 seems to have given Blu-ray the lead so far, but will this change? So far they have over 170 brands supporting their format, from 20th Century Fox, to Buena Vista International. The battle is on..
