Palm have been making PDAs and smartphones since the dawn of time, but they've decided that they need to branch out, which is why they've created a Completely Differently Product Category. Yes, people. They have Invented Something New.
This is the Folio, which is designed to be paired with your Palm smartphone, and provide you with a sensible sized screen and keyboard, for when you've got some serious work to do. As our friends over at Tech Digest have quite rightly pointed out, this does seem to negate the main advantage of the smartphone, which is the size, but who are we to stifle consumer electronics creativity.
It has a Linux-based operating system, 10-inch screen, USB connectivity, video-out port, headphone jack, slots for SD and compact flash cards, editors for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, plus a PDF viewer and a 5-hour battery life.
So far, we know the US will get it over the summer for $499, but there's no word on UK availability.
