In rural Arkansas, students in the Sheridan school district have to endure a three hour daily commute just to get to school. Because of this, Arkansas' Aspirnaut Initiative (not to be confused with the Dharma Initiative) wants to make the most of their commute and promote science education by bringing laptops, iPods, and Wi-Fi to their school buses. In their three year trial, students riding on Sheridan's Bus 46 will be able to listen to educational podcasts on their iPods, as well as using their laptops to use interactive, web-based learning programs on the bus' wireless internet. Perhaps the coolest part for the kids is that at the end of the three year trial period, they'll be able to keep their iPods and laptops. This idea makes me all warm and fuzzy inside, and I really hope that the Aspirnaut Initiative is successful in bringing the wonders of modern technology to these kids.
