Despite Brenthaven's claims, I see this not so much as "the first messenger bag to combine great style and protection all in one", but the first laptop bag to look like an ordinary courier bag. The curvature, water bottle holder and slight bulkiness give this the appearance of a student bag full of empty files, fags and rolled-up jumpers. It's more laptop camouflage than laptop case, drawing no expensive attention to itself while portables of up to 15.4" nestle within.
To give the Fusion its due, it's a solid piece of bag engineering, being rugged with a patent-pending CORE Protection System to ward off hardware knocks and scrapes and a back-friendly padded strap. The practical nylon fabric and expandable section make it the laptop bag equivalent of Birkenstocks: solid, comfy, but no matter how much you dress them up still relentlessly sensible. It even has a Brenthaven Lifetime Guarantee. Available in black for a very reasonable £39.95, something tells me you won't be seeing it on the catwalk any time soon.
