BBC iPlayer, an on-and-offline TV on demand service, has been approved by the BBC Trust. There’s no release date yet, but we can shortly look forward to catching up with our viewing on our computers for seven days after transmission. Home Choice and Virgin Media already offer pick-of-the-week TV playback of this, and the iPlayer is a welcome online addition.
Ashley Highfield, BBC Director of Future Media and Technology, says: “BBC iPlayer responds to a need for greater control and flexibility over how and when audiences access BBC content... In its initial release, BBC iPlayer will make BBC Television programmes available for download, free for UK licence fee payers, at high quality, with no advertising, for up to a week after transmission."
