Bird on a wire, in a cage, it's all the same

bird.jpg

There’s something wistfully poetic about a caged bird. You can even buy bird cages in designer homeware shops these days, distressed ones, off-white with a hint of rust, that sort of thing. They go for hundreds, and look oh so faded-glam dangling by a window.

Obviously proper metal ones painted white are best; ones that theoretically could house a bird, although you’d never want a real, smelly, feathery one. Telly’s much lower maintenance and more rewarding. Still, this plastic green one from Urban Outfitters has the whimsical shape, the danglability from the ornate little hook, and even comes with a bird included! Not a real one, but even better - one that eats no food, never wants to come out of its cage, and smells only of PVC. It even chirps in a birdlike way, but can be turned off when there’s something better to watch on Sky.
