Airfree Platinum 2000 air purifier

I have an older Airfree purifier and like it enough to be quite pleased that they've come out with the new Airfree Platinum 2000. The Airfree system has a superheated ceramic core, and air is sucked against it, causing any nasties in the air to be incinerated. It destroys anything from the typical mould, bacteria and viruses to dust, smoke and even ozone. Since most air purifiers generate ozone, which can be injurious to lungs, the Airfree should be a serious contender for anybody who has asthma.

Since it has no fan, the Airfree is completely silent, and yet the design means it hardly generates any significant heat outside the unit. It also has no replaceable filters, so you buy once, and that's all. The downside on the unit I have is that it takes about a week to fully condition a room, so it's no good in hotels (which is where I most want a high-quality purifier). However, the newer devices are more efficient all the time, and I have great optimism that the time lag problem will eventually see a brilliant solution from Airfree. $240. [GT]
