Water Me! Get Your Plants To Call You

Comments (1)

botanicalls.jpg

The cutely named Botanicalls sensor system enables your plants to let you know when they need your help.

Ambient sensors detect humidity, temperature, light and CO2/oxygen availability in the plant's vicinity. The info is then matched against a plant database in a server that can trigger an e-mail or phone call to the owner when appropriate. The phone calls are coordinated by the open-source telephone platform Asterisk. Depending on the plant's determined needs, the Asterisk system generates the call and plays the appropriate audio file.

I can just imagine it: Hey, I’m a little dry! Can we get some water over here? Open a window, would you? Daffodil needs some air. No way, Cactus is freezing in here!

Let’s hope someone invents an automatic plant waterer and window opener that you can activate from your phone soon!

Talk about the Rube Goldberg of plant watering. If this sensor is so smart, why can't it just water the plant itself?
