Truphone enables Wi-Fi-equipped Nokia mobiles to make internet-rate VoIP phone calls over Wi-Fi connections. When the handset is not in Wi-Fi range it reverts from being a 'Truphone' to being your regular, recognisable mobile phone.
When in Wi-Fi range, Truphone users show as 'online' in Google Talk, so that in the unlikely event that your friend has Truphone and you use Google Talk and she’s in range AND you’re logged in, you’ll know about it and can make a free call. (Because it’s purely an internet call, it’s all free.)
