The Standby Plug is an invention that won Vodafone's online competition 'What's your Big Idea?' Designed by Karl Dorn, The Standby Plug is designed to be fitted to any appliance with a standby mode such as TVs, washing machines, DVD players etc. When the appliance goes on to standby, the plug will sense it and switch the appliance off.
Seeing as in the UK we waste around £740million a year as well as pollute the atmosphere with CO2 emmissions, this is definitely a device I'm looking forward to seeing. It's currently in development phase with patent and a search for a manufacturer is on.
