It looks like an extension socket, and what do you know - it is, but it's cleverer than your average cable. You plug it into the mains, insert your desktop computer into the black socket and all your peripherals (printer, monitor, scanner etc) into the other points. When you've turned off the PC, the gadget detects this and turns everything else off too (not in a bad way, it doesn't tell them they smell, just removes the power).
