CES 2007: Ambi-gaming from Philips - the amBX

Although not a new announcement, Philips took the opportunity to illustrate the amBX gaming system. The idea is that you get a totally immersive experience when you're playing games, courtesy of lights, fans, rumble packs and serious speakers. For instance, driving fast might cause the desk fans to activate, explosions project over 14 million colours on the wall behind your computer, and firing guns might activate the 'wrist rumbler'. Nice.

The only problem is, all the games need to be specially programmed to be able to take advantage of this. So far, Broken Sword: The Angel of Death, Toca Racing Driver 3 and DEFCON have it sorted, whilst RAIL SIMULATOR Supreme Commander is imminent.

Prices will vary depending on what you want - $199 for a starter kit will include a directional wall washer light, controller unit and satellite lights; a $299 Pro-Gamer Kit includes a directional wall washer light, a controller unit, satellite 2.1 speaker lights and subwoofer; a $99 Extension Kit features a set of desk fans and wrist rumbler. And for those who *really* love their gaming, a $399 Premium Kit encompasses all of the above.
