Alarm clocks make the most unbelievably ugly noises, which is natural, since, well, you're supposed to be awoken so overwhelmingly that you must, must, must, stop that horrible sound. The Ventriloque alarm clock, by contrast, lets you record whatever message you want to embed in it, and it's pretty cute looking too, being designed by Paris's Tsé & Tsé. $95, and (for the time being) unsurprisingly sold out.
