A Shiny Christmas, or how Susi tried to instigate a techno-Christmas

Christmas, eh? I finally realised this year that I'd better start embracing the feeling of giving over receiving, since in our Christmas tradition of each opening a present in turn, I was the first to finish because my stock under the tree had run dry. Meanwhile my mother, my siblings, even my grandmother all carried on fo a good 20 minutes. So, I'm embracing, albeit out of neccesity than actual Christmas goodwill.

So this year, I went all out in presents. And come Christmas eve, I was actually looking forward to seeing other people's faces as they opened the gifts I'd carefully wrapped. And so it began.

First up my sister: a DS Lite. Much gasping, applause, and general amazement. Next: my brother. A PSP. More gasping, jokes about my being the best sibling in the family (they say they were joking - I know they weren't really) and general thanks. Then, my other sister: a GPS system. Same again, with a slight raised eyebrow from my mother. I think she thought I'd robbed a bank.

In actual fact, this job gets me a few marvellous privileges, one such one being the occasional discount on electronics. But even without that, I would have got the same gifts, given the choice. Which indicates only one thing: even when I'm buying gifts, I'm buying the things that interest me. My selfless Christmas gift giving was disappearing before my very eyes. Is this an affliction that gets everyone? I assume not, since I'm pretty sure my mother has never been interested in a pink toolkit (she has my dad, who is both a shade of pink and a bit of a tool) a ski jacket (she hates any sports involving snow) or a bucket load of sweets (she just doesn't like them). So, she can buy purely for the joy of giving. Me? I'm just trying to convert my family to my own weird techno-cult.

Next year, I'm going to try harder. In fact, next year, everyone is getting soft furnishings - gifts which are very very far away from my heart.

Wow!
Very nice presents :)

One question
- How does one become a member of your family?

I would like to apply for the job, if there are any current open vacancies.

There are two possible ways that I can see, either adoption or I marry in.

Now, I must come clean and admit that I am not a small child from a third world country therefore severely limiting my chances of one of those options - judging my the way most celebrities are going these days.

Looks like c-sections are now a fad of the past and the only true way for a mother to retain her figure is to not have the remote possibility of losing it in the first place - my guess will be that this will be taken to a stage further, one day.
Taking any risks out of the equation completely *shudder to even think of that *

Anyhoo, look forward to recieved (and giving) better presents soon.

Nobody Special

Actually, there's a vacancy coming up. If you'd like to forward you CV to the usual shiny address, I'll make sure it gets seen by the right people. Third world children do get put to the top of the pile admittedly, but we do try to look at all candidates with an objective eye.
There may also be a Family Idol series in the works. I'll let you know if this goes ahead. Happy New Year.

LOL :)
Thanks Susi

P.S. See you at the next Edelman Third Thursday, if not sooner :D
