Fuji have just unveiled the first of its Z series cameras to feature hardware-based Face Detection technology. Face detection, I hear you say? Yes, it detects faces: and, having detected them, captures up to ten of them per frame, optimising focus and exposure to get the best image possible. A real people person, then. Or camera, rather.
The Z5fd is also small and tough, so it'll both fit into tiny spaces and emerge unscathed from them, with its 2.5" scratch resistant LCD screen and non-extending Fujinon 3x optical zoom making sure it stays compact and scratch-free. Performance-wise, in addition to the aforementioned optical zoom, it has 6.3 Megapixels, ISO 1600, Intelligent Flash and new blog mode (blog mode!), plus Fujifilm's unique Super CCD HR and RP Processor II.
I particularly like the sound of the natural light and flash mode, which takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without, so you're spared the flash/no flash decision. Both pics are then shown on the camera's screen so you can choose which to keep and which to kick to the curb.
That all-important blog mode, meanwhile, allows the camera to adjust image settings all by itself, so that you can post them directly to your blog without all of that pesky cropping and re-sizing.
Oh, and it comes in three pretty colours, too. It's not available until January, though, so no need to add it to the Christmas list...
