While conference calling used to be all about meetings and suits, Canyon aims to change that perception with its new VoIP Station.
The device is firmly pitched at the modern family, and aims to make conference calling more accessible to those who'd rather forget the office. Despite the family-friendly bent, however, Canyon's device doesn't hold back on the technology.
The VoIP Station uses the same high-end technology you'll find in expensive office systems, and uses VoIP to make free calls using your internet connection. Now there's no excuse to avoid talking to your layabout younger sister when ringing your parents at the weekend. Or maybe that problem is unique to me.
As far as the system goes, Canyon's VoIP station is Skype and MSN compatible (among other services), it plugs into your family computer via USB, and uses an integrated omni-directional microphone. But if you want to gush about your new beau without your Victorian father overhearing, just get your mum to plug a headset into one of the audio jacks.
Buy one for Christmas for £39.95, and be prepared for frequent and lengthy family discussions.
