Autumn has come to my part of the world, which means cooler weather, darker mornings, and much more whining and groaning on my part when it comes time to get out from under the covers. Phillips has just unveiled a new alarm clock which simulates sunrise in your bedroom, in order to gently wake your body at the pre-designated time. Light-intensity can even be set to your own personal standards. I'm sure it's much more pleasant than being awoken by the screechy noises that summon me from sleep in the mornings - but I doubt very highly that it's pleasant enough to make me less whiny about getting out of bed.
For the present, only the French have access to this simulated soleil, the rest of us have to wait until 2007.

I can't wait for this. My waking up process right now involves hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock about 60 times. This might have the same effect without the noisiness and without annoying my housemates.
