Fossil Writes Time watch. Knowledge of US dialect essential

I love watches that don't just consist of a big hand and little hand. In fact, I've been documenting that very fact, and the consequent downfalls over on the Shiny Forum. This is another one of them, this time from Fossil, and true to form I want it now. The only slight problem is that I've never really understand what Americans mean when they say "It's three of five". Is it three to five? Is it three past five? Is it midnight? However, despite this drawback, I want it because a) it's designed by architect Frank Gehry, b) it switches between a positive and negative display according to whether it's day or night. And c) I now only use watches as talking points, preferring to check the actual time on my phone. You can get one from the Fossil online shop for $150. [Via Awesome]

Looks like it just says "past" and "til", so you should be set :)

Can't say I know anyone that would use the phrase "3 of 5" here anyway (here being NY).

I hear the phrase "quarter of five" occasionally still (meaning 4:45).

You know, I've been trying to get my hands on one of these for ages, just never had the cash. Had forgotten about it until now, so now I can be annoyed at not owning it all over again...!
