As expected by many of the Apple rumour experts, Apple tonight launched their film store. They've partered with the 4 major film houses owned by Disney, offering films like Cars, Pirates of the Carribean 2, Shakespeare in Love and Good Will Hunting. In an interesting pricing decision, they're offering films bought in the first week of release, or by preorder for $12.99, which goes up to $14.99 after that (older films cost $9.99). But be warned limeys, there was no mention of UK pricing or indeed availability. Don't go getting excited yet.

But there was more, in the form of some actual new products. The new iPod is cheap and big, as all the best things are. $249 gets you 30GB, whilst $349 gets you whopping 80GB. Battery life has also been expanded by 75%, the screen made 60% brighter and some new features such as instant searching. This gives you a QWERTY keyboard on the bottom of your menu screen, so you can search by letter, rather than scrolling though the whole catalogue. There's also something called gapless playback, which goes through your library and decides which tracks are supposed to flow without gaps, such as classical or remixe albums. They're also now selling games on iTunes, and they've started with all the old favourites - Tetris, Pacman, Bejeweled, all optimised for iPods.

The new iPod Nano ditches the shiny finish of the previous model, and goes back to the Mini-esque brushed aluminium casing. There's also the curved corners not seen since the Mini. Difficult to see on the satellite broadcast, but apparently it's thinner than the current Nano. So, now you'll have to be even more careful with it.

(Almost) finally, there's a new Shuffle. Thought they'd died when they were adopted by hoodies the world over? Nope. It's back, and its smaller (about the size of the top half of Steve Jobs thumb, square). It comes with a clip on the back, so it's hideable about your person, and it's got new aluminium casing. 1GB of storage will cost you $79.

And just when we thought it was over, Steve pulled a few iTunes tricks out of his hat. The main one being that iTunes are now all about the cover art. In fact, they're going to offer free cover art to everyone with an iTunes account, even the CDs you've burned all by yourself. It should happen automatically, next time you connect to iTunes.

He also let slip the iTV, which isn't being launched until next year. It's basically a media hub you connect to your tV, so you can take advantage of all the lovely stuff you've bought from iTunes. It communicates wirelessly with your computer, bringing you the latest releases, as well as trailers, album art for your music and dinner on the table when you get home. Or something like that.
