Yay or Nay Wednesday: A breathalizer phone?

TrackBacks (1) Comments (8)

It's that time again - it's Wednesday and we want to know what you think. This week, the phone that embodies the sober mate we've all got.

Already a hit in Korea, thLg_alcohole LG LP4100 features a built in breathalizer which records your blood-alcohol level. If you're over the limit for driving it displays a little animated car swerving and bashing into traffic cones.

The other feature is the Drunk Dial Preventer. The phone allows you to select certain numbers from your address book and prevent you from dialling them if your blood alcohol level is above 0.08. And lets face it, it's the same numbers whoever you are - ex-boyfriend, potential future-boyfriend, parents, boss.

Although initially it looks 100% amazing, and I was willing to fork out megabucks on eBay to get one sent from America (where they're launching later this year) I then thought about my own drunk dialling incidents. Without them, what would I cringe about with friends, not to mention to old friendships that have been kindled back into life after a glass of wine and an itchy phone finger...

So what do you think? [Susi]

Yay! But i don't see myself needing it often....

I can see ppl out there needing things like that. Plus, it doesn't make the design ugly or anything and if things like these can maybe even save ONE life, then yes, it's worth it.

Yay! I'm a total drunk dialler, so this is a MUST HAVE!!!

  • I'm a bit here and there on this one. I like the drunk dialler feature, but I think if you are stupid enough to drink and drive then you are probably stupid enough not to check your alcohol level too. Nay!

  • Fun thing with the alcometer... I've participated in a similar concept that has been presented a few years ago at malmo university in Sweden. But with some added must-have feaures and less focus on driving...

    Nay-

Anyone who has the tendency to drunk dial knows to lock their keypad or to keep their phone out of sight-out of mind-

Secondly, how are you going to call for a ride-putting coins into a booth would be quite difficult-

Last but not least I'd prefer to pay for a phone with say, a voice analyzing lie detector before an anti-drunken dialing phone.

Yay for the breathalizer - good idea. As for the other feature - bit gimmicky. If you're THAT stupid when you're mingin' drunk, you'd find a phonebox!

  • Nay - I just can't see the point of either of these features. Then again I'm not a big drinker and rarely ever to the point of being drunk.

  • Gee

Hmm.. tricky one. I suppose yay, for people who like to ring up HUGGE phone bills. (i.e my gran :P)
