Yay or Nay Wednesday: Tassimo Hot drinks machine

TrackBacks (1) Comments (19)

Tassimo_machine_1 Since all our other lady blogs indulge in a little bit of Wednesday debating, I thought I'd hop on board the Yay or Nay bandwagon and get some of your opinions. First up is this Tassimo Hot Drinks machine. Despite the fact that most of us associate hot drinks machines with miserable times spent in offices, hopsitals and similar establishments, Kenco and Braun have convinced themselves that we all want one in our homes. Kenco coffees, Twinings teas and Suchard hot chocolate are all available. It uses discs that you insert into the machine (£3.29 per pack) and it costs £99.99.

So do you want a machine that can whip up a cappuccino for you? Or would you rather boil up the kettle or fire up the espresso machine in the traditional fashion? Cast your votes.... now!

[It's Yay or Nay across the Shiny blogs today, so don't forget to vote at Trashionista Bridalwave, Catwalk Queen The Bag Lady and Shoewawa, too!]

NO!NO!NO!NO!
What an awful contraption. The coffee's OK, but the waste is awful and the whole thing's expensive.
What a waste of time, energy, resources and money. Bialetti stove top for me any day.

Nay on this one. Although I like the idea of a machine that can do coffee, tea or hot cocoa, none of these are particularly hard to make with current, cheap machinery. And I hate the idea of having to buy their special pods, which limits my choice of beverage mix brands.

Nay! I have a kettle that does the trick and my coffee doesn't taste like chicken soup after. Actually, does it do soup?

Yay :o)

My Aunt-in-Law (is that a term?) got a job over the holidays 'demonstrating' the Tassimo in local shops for holiday shoppers.
She is the one of the least technology inclined people I know, and even she could operate it like a pro. She brought it to dinner a few times, and the coffee was quite good, as well as the tea and cappucinos as well as the cocoa. you don't have to do anything other than pop in the disc and push the start button. It reads the barcode on the disc and does all the setting work for you.

Nay - I'm not much of a coffee drinker (and I'm afraid to admit that when I do it normally comes from one of the much hated high street chains) but I drink tea like it's going out of fashion. For me you will never beat proper tea leaves, a tea pot and strainer. No machine can make tea that's that good.

Nay. I've heard that is just a waste of money. I'd only drink the hot chocolate too, but known me in a few years I'd invest in one of those, because I am lazy :D

Nay, I'm so much more prone to nip down to Starbucks...

I think A coffee/drinks machine is one of those contraptions that gets loved for a honeymoon period of a month, then gets shunted to the back off the cupboard, in favour of a new contraption. Ie, popcorn maker, waffle maker, juicer...I'm afraid I'm guilty on most parts!

A cautious YAY -- for a couple of reasons. First off, if you want good coffee, go for the similar Keurig machine instead. The Tassimo has comparable convenience, but the coffee is pretty bad. The Keurig has tea and coffee available, and it's of better quality, in my opinion.

That said, really, the Jura Capresso line is ridiculously expensive, but does everything. Push the 'make me a cup now!' button, and it grinds the beans, forces the water through, and cleans itself all in less than a minute. Espresso or regular coffee, one cup or two, big cups or small cups. $1700 for a coffee pot sounds like a lot -- until you realize how much you're blowing at the Starbucks each year.

love it. hubby bought it for xmas, use it 2 or 3 times a week when i know i won't have time to stop at starbucks before work. only drawback is that they don't sell just the creamer discs alone, has to come with the capuccino set.

How lazy does one have to be to purchase an appliance because they think boiling water is too hard?

tea: boil water and pour it into a pot
coffee: boil water and pour it into a coffee press. add milk.
cocoa: boil water, add to mix

obviously, this needs simplfying.

YAY!
My office has the Keurig machine and it is wonderful.
We (my coworkers and I) especially love it because it makes one cup - no need to make an entire pot when only one person wants decaf or a certain flavor. There is a huge variety of the coffees and teas - just none of the lattes or cappuccinos that the tassimo offers. Also, the price of the Tassimo machine is rather high.
I'd still like to try the Tassimo before buying one - I'm curious how the cappucinos come out.

the picture isn't working
or is it just my computer.

Nay nay nay Mr Wilks.

Unless you have some sort of disability which makes it hard for you to use a kettle, teapot, cafetiere, etc then I really can't see the point of paying over the odds for one of these.

Na-a-a-y. It's evil. The whole point of yummy hot drinks is the preparation. Gorgeous dark coffee fresh from the press on a Saturday morning in bed, the full Yorkshire Tea Ceremony (with biccys) after a hard days shopping and rich thick milky hot chocolate before bed on a cold November night..press a button? They'll be selling us microwave gourmet meals next !!!! and it's ugly!

Use coffee that hasn't been freshly ground? Ech...

Seriously, the DeLonghi Magnifica is 400 quid but grinds the beans for you - like the Jura but much cheaper. You have to froth the milk yourself, so caps and lattes are easier with the Jura.

It does mean that I can get up in the morning, press two buttons and have good espresso without having to engage my brain :)

Well, I don't drink hot drinks very much so it's not really relevant...but if I did I'd probably steal the family Senseo instead. So Nay.

Sandwich toasters, however...

Nay coffee pods aren't as good as fresh, loads of packaging, cost more, really bad idea

Yay - I thought it was a tacky gadget, then realised in the office it is great - previously peopel would waste a pot of tea/coffee and let it go stew. This way, you get proper brewed tea or coffee (not from powder) but only on a cup by cup basis. I agree though there is a piece of plastic for each cup wasted AND the machine is expensive AND it is locking you into their brand for the pods. But the coffee / Tea is the best I have from a 'machine' so on balance - Yeh!

!NAY!

If you like collecting junk, go right ahead...
Bad service + bad product just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Oh, careful ordering from them directly, you are gonna need to form a malitia in order to get them to cancel the "subscription" they bill you $40 for every month, and hang-up on you when you call to say STOP
