Gemma and I went over to the Air Gallery on Dover Street today to check out some concept phone designs from Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design. Nokia organised the whole thing, asking 25 Industrial Design MA students to mock up some phones that we might well be using in the future. Cash was the prize, along with a summer placement at the Nokia design studios.
The lovely Daniel Meyer was responsible for the winning design, creating a Nokia 111 concept phone that can be swivelled round so you can sit it on a table. Out of all the phones it was the one that looked most likely to actually reach the shops in the near future.
It also had some neat application ideas - including a friends radar that will alert you when your friends are close by, and a "Soft SIM" that will allow you to transfer your contacts over to a friend's phone straight away.
If you want to see the exhibition it runs from 13th-16th June at the Air Gallery, Dover Street, London W15 - and it's free.
