FT (Female Type) Robot
If I were designing a "female type" robot, I would first consider the
functional features of the female form to determine how they might be
utilized to enhance robotic technology in areas where other forms might
fall short. It would likely then occur to me that the major differences
in male and female physiology by and large centers around childbirth.
At this point I would begin panicking about the possibility of robotic
reproduction (and the inevitable downfall of humanity once they've
successfully populated the planet), and declare that robots, being
non-sentient machines without the need for primary and secondary sexual
traits or well-defined gender identities, are likely more useful to
mankind in generic, asexual forms.
Whereas robotic designer Tomotaka Takahashi (who probably knows more about robots that what I've grokked from sci-fi novels and films) thought it prudent to spend a year designing a female robotic type, the FT. What makes the FT womanly? Twenty-three onboard motors to simulate a feminine walk (the perfection of which was obtained through the assistance of professional fashion models), and, judging by the photo, a curvaceous, top-heavy body design.
Maybe Takahashi and I have read the same books and seen the same movies after all.
