E3: Nintendo's New Revolution Wii Console

Comments (2)

Nintendo_revolution_controller_1It seems fairly odd that we haven't really picked up on this console by now - as the gaming world has been nit-picking at every stage of its prototyping.  From its bizarre name change to the much sillier 'Wii'  from a fairly respectable 'Revolution', to objections to the shape of the controller, or rumours that the entire back-catalogue might be available for free (don't quote me on that one!).

Nintendo have been show-casing the Wii at E3 for a few days now. The thing I find most amusing is
the fact that the wireless controllers can be tracked by the console, allowing the conducting of an orchestra or even tennis playing in a game, actually swinging the controller to hit the ball, as seen after the turn with Mr Miyamoto himself.

Nintendo_tennisI haven't played with consoles for many years as they just got that little bit too complicated for me, I'd spend most of my time waiting to re-generate as my friends whizzed off for their 100th kill... However I am looking forward to seeing what Nintendo have up their sleeves for the Wii, carrying on their tradition of encouranging game-play instead of churning out mindless first-person shooters and racing games.  [Sara Wallen]

"Revolution" has always been a codename, so a name change has been expected for some time.

The back catalogue of games will not be free, but will range from a few dollars to under $10 per game.

Thanks for the update Brinstar - none of the sites I checked had any of the information I was after to confirm or deny what I'd said - I guess it's old news now so stuff had sunk deep into the archives!
