Nokia goes Back to Basics

Nokia

Now personally I'm about to get a new phone with a specifications list which almost challenges my first PC (1998) and laptop, so I'm not likely to be the first person buying myself these. However, I am a fan of minimalism and think it's daft how every phone out there nowadays feels obliged to be much more than 'just' a phone. MP3 players, radios, organisers, cameras, games consoles, books, portals to the internet...

... I do keep a Nokia 3100 as a backup and I must say I love it - the battery life is phenominal, it survives all kinds of abuse, glows in the dark, and makes phone calls. Brilliant.

So anyway, Nokia have realised there is still a market for fairly plain telephones. Buying a "simple" phone nowadays (ooh, hark at me, 22-going-on-65) seems impossible, unless you're happy to go second-hand. This release allows you to get yourself an uncluttered mobile and still have the satisfaction of owning something brand new - and I betcha bum the price and battery life will reward you handsomely!

Up for release are the Nokia 2610, Nokia 2310 and Nokia 1112 models:

The 2610 (middle pic) is a business model, it includes WAP, e-mail, a finance manager, extended space for up to 300 contacts, and the usual colour screen, poly/MP3 ringtones and calendar. Due to retail at about €75 (~£50).

The 2310 (left) seems to be aimed at 'teens' with changeable coloured covers, extended options for SMS, a pre-pay tracker to keep a tabs the cost of every SMS sent and call made, and a built in FM radio with sound visualisation effects. RRP €65 (~£45)

Finally the 1112 (right) is designed for first time users, with large simple graphics, a speaking clock and alarm, and a demo mode. Something to get your gran! RRP €45 (~£30)   [Sara Wallen]

At last! Proper phones!
I've *got* an iPod, I've *got* a great digital camera, and I have a laptop... I don't need an all singing all dancing phone... so I've gone for a Sony Ericsson that phones people and has changeable fascias... and tetris... I'm over the moon :)

This is EXCELLENT news... My (very, oh so very) old Nokia 3310 just recently passed away, (I know, I'm such a dork for having lasted so long with it..) and the best replacement I found was my sister's old 3310!
Seen the new releases, I think I might actually go all the way and invest on a new phone... Thank you Nokia!!
