I/O Brush - The World as the Palette

Comments (1)

IobrushWoo, at last, the invention of something truly clever and yet not too full of complexity or bizarreness for anyone normal to understand the merits of. Bravo, MIT Media Lab!

At the most basic level, this brush (which is embedded with a small camera) picks up colour and pattern from whatever you touch or brush it over, and allows you to 'paint' it onto a lovely interactive video canvas-type-thing.

Iobrush_collection As a kid fascinated by the cartoons which would show a character using "Acme Checkered Paint" to slosh a chess-board pattern onto a fence or wall, I wish I could have a play with this, or that I could have experienced something similar back then.

It even takes moving images and allows them to be painted onto the canvas too, the video on the website shows images full of blinking eyes and swirling patterns. The children in the pictures look completely fascinated, and I get the feeling I'd regress to a similar giggly state if I had a toy like that to play with! Beats smudgy 4B pencils and smeary erasers.  [Sara Wallen]
