Cordless Cold Heat Glue Gun

We've been having a bit of a run of tool coverage in recent weeks. Partly because I have a penchant for tool-based activities and partly because people keep emailing us with their new products. This Freestyle glue gun from Cold Heat is, like their Soldering Tool, a cordless tool that doesn't actually get hot (it was the Cold Heat name that gave it away, wasn't it). It's designed for light home repair and craft-y activities. The Gun costs $29.95 and will be readily available in the UK soon. I had a go with one over the weekend so keep reading to find out how I got on.

Actually, if I'm honest, I had only the briefest of goes with the glue gun over the weekend. That's because my other half commandeered it fairly swiftly so that he could make a wooden box out of an old crate (a present for the people who are publishing his children's book - coming soon to a store near you! Well, next year anyway. Sorry - that's a bit shameless isn't it...).

As you can see, the gun did an admirable job, and it really didn't get hot to the touch. It works by zapping heat at the glue very quickly, producing enough heat to melt it but cooling down again rapidly when you take your hand off the trigger. I suspect that this means you use quite a lot of power, but the 1.5-hour battery life quoted on the blurb was accurate (for a change), and that amount of power should be enough for the kinds of tasks you'd be wanting to do with it.

The Freestyle Glue Gun isn't the kind of thing you'd use for doing loads of heavy duty gluing, but if you're into making your own crafty type things, or if you want to do some quick fixes on small things round the house - or if you just want to make a small box out of an old crate - it's a very handy little thing to own.
