I was recently reprimanded by a friend's mum because I don't carry pepper spray. I realize it's a good safety device - but it's also bulky and, frankly, I'm afraid I'd end up spraying myself in the face at a crucial moment.
However, if you're a bit more safety conscious (and coordinated) you might find this pepper spray, disguised as a mobile, useful. Not only does its design allow you to carry it in the open without alerting any would-be-attacker that you have it at the ready, but it also has a panic alarm.
