Tivoli radio in Chrome

Pal_chrome_02_1Remember the Pink Tivoli PAL radio? Well, now it comes in Chrome. Which you probably gathered from the headline, but we haven't really got anything else to say about it that we didn't say in the previous post. So we're just padding. Call us churlish, but we're finding it hard to get fired up about a radio that isn't digital. Plus, it costs £140, which will buy you a nice DAB. Would someone tell us why this is worth having? We're admitting ignorance on this one. Men, feel free to patronise us with your exasperated explanations. But keep the sentences small. Read

Shiny Shiny, just a quick word to say that I absolutely LOVE your site. It's wonderfully laid out and very appealing and fun to read! I mentioned your site in my own site not long ago, under -http://coolchiq.blogspot.com/2005/01/golden-gadgets.html#comments

Thanx again for your excellent site!

Yes, that is way too expensive for a radio. However, being the owner of a Tivoli Model-One radio, I can say that the advantage is the sound quality. These radios sound amazing-- especially considering they are mono speaker. And, as you know, they look cool too. But still, £140 is too much!

I have a white iPal one. They sound great. This one is shiny.

I have a Tivoli PAL, and I LOVE it. I've had it for several years (before the whole iPod craze hit), and the sound quality is amazing. I just got an iPod mini, and I have tried out two sets of highly rated speakers, but both have been returned, because the iPod just sounds best through the PAL! Really!

The Tivoli is a bit pricey yes, but then it is really well built. One suspects its components are of a higher quality too because the radio has a more powerful receiver than most. As for DAB - I've tried several in NW London and have found them all overrated. Reception of most common radio channels is poor (like listening to aliens speaking backwards) and often non-existant, and the sound is far too compressed for my liking. So give me a standard analogue radio any day of the week.

Yeah, but there's no 6Music on analogue radio. And, more importantly, no Planet ROCK.

Listen before you leap.

A radio should fire you up with great sound quality. Either the Tivoli has it or not. Seems to me that how it tunes and display is far less important than sound quality.

MATT

I got a Tivoli PAL for my birthday last year, after very kindly turning down the (digital) offering that was first made. A techie friend introduced it at a training day a while back, to date four of us have now got one of our own and two more are still planning on getting it! We're all women and we got it.
It sounds superb, with real depth to it. You can just plug your mp3 player/CD player/laptop into the back, it's fully portable with many hours per charge; (about 20). Just take it out to your favourite place to relax, as it has a weather-resistant rubberised cabinet, lay back and enjoy hearing your favourite sounds come through an excellent piece of technology.
At John Lewis the Tivoli PAL is displayed with i-Pods et al, as people have realised that this is by far the best way to hear the output.
I just read that 'What Hi-Fi' gave it 5 stars in April again, so it may have been around for a couple of years, but there is still nothing to compare since it won Best Buy 2003.
Can you tell I love my PAL!

I got a Tivoli Model 1 a couple of years ago as a birthday present. There hasn't been a day since when I haven't used it. It quite simply looks & more importantly, sounds fabulous! Friends that have heard it can't belive the quality of the sound coming from such a small box.

Exciting News!!!! There's a new Tivoli on the block.

Tivoli Model DAB!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see one of these.
