Those nice people at Girls' Stuff have sent us some products to try out and review. We'll be putting them up in the next couple of days. So make sure you keep checking back if you want to find out how we got on with the Heated Eyelash Curlers. In the meantime, you can read our review of the "World's Smallest Hairdryer."
The Travel Hairdryer, from Opal London, is designed for those of us who need to have a hairdryer available at all times. It comes with a detachable nozzle and can be folded away into the supplied drawstring bag.
When it arrived our immediate thought was that there was no way something so small would be able to dry our hair. It really is a tiny little device and looks like something you'd find in a kid's hairdressing kit. There are two speeds available on the dryer, but since the Opal uses only 450 Watts compared to the 1600-2000 Watts you find on normal hairdryers, we felt sure we wouldn't be using the lower setting at any stage.
After our initial reservations, we were extremely impressed with how much heat the dryer actually produced. The power of the wind it produced wasn't that much stronger than having someone actually blow on your hair for you, but the sheer heat of the unit was enough to ensure that our hair was dry in a reasonably short amount of time.
Because the Opal relies on the heat of the air rather than the power, your hair will probably end up feeling quite frazzled. If you use it regularly, you'd need to make sure you had some heat-protecting serum to use with it. Also, you don't get such a smooth finish as you would with your usual hairdryer, and you need to spend a lot more time styling your hair to stop it frizzing.
It's never fair to compare travel hairdryers with your everyday dryers, and we felt that that, as travel dryers go, the Opal London was as good as many of the others we'd used before - and around half their size. It's not the most fancy dryer in the world, but it does the job and, at £12.95, we're not complaining.
